Description of Image Two blacksmiths raise their hammers to pound out a metal rod on an anvil. Be- hind them, a small bareheaded apprentice boy stands close to the bellows. The barefoot, bareheaded smith has both hands wrapped around the handle of a heavy striker. He raises it above his head so he can get maximum force with his blow. The other smith holds a claw hammer in his right hand, raised over his head. He grasps the metal rod with pincers in his left hand. The second smith wears a soft cap and shoes.
